Obverse: Depicts the portrait of George VI designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget

Reverse 1: 1937 to 1948 was designed by George Kruger Grey and depicts the crowned interlinked initials GRI (Georgius Rex Imperator) King George Emperor

Reverse 2: In 1949 the reverse was redesigned to read GVIR (Georgius VI Rex) after the title Emperor of India had been relinquished

 

Composition: 1937-46 0.500 Silver Weight  2.8grams Diameter 19mm 1947-52 Copper 75% Nickel 25% Weight 2.8grams Diameter 19mm.

In 1947 the metal of the Sixpence was changed to cupronickel to allow Britain to repay Silver borrowed from the United States for the war effort.
