Malaysia
came into being on Sept. 16,
1963, as a federation of Malaya (Johore, Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis, Trengganu,
Negri-Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Penang, Malacca), Singapore, Sabah and
Sarawack. Following two serious racial riots involving Malay and Chinese,
Singapore withdrew from the federation on Aug. 9, 1965
